A simpler way to frame it would be that models are necessarily finite, while the reality is infinite.
If you try to include all the information from the territory onto the map, any signal should be lost back into the noise.
Which then gets to the issue of what constitutes signal, versus merely noise?
The information our minds tends to pick up are what resonates and synchronizes with our prior knowledge. Which is a process that goes to earliest childhood memories and lessons, when we were most emotional and least informed. The seed from which our thoughts sprung. The grain of sand at the center of the pearl. The religions that serve as the locus of the culture. The assumptions on which the models are built.
One of the primary is the notion of the passage of time.
As mobile organisms, this sentient interface our body has with its situation functions as a sequence of perceptions, in order to navigate, so our sense of time is the present moving past to future. It is the basis of culture and civilization, as narrative, history and the accumulation of knowledge serving as the foundations of further knowledge.
The reality though, is that activity and the resulting change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns.
There is no dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect. It is like a tapestry being woven from strands being pulled from what was woven.
Energy is conserved, because it manifests this presence, creating time, temperature, pressure, color, sound, as frequencies and amplitudes, rates and degrees.
Energy, as presence, goes past to future, because the patterns generated come and go, future to past.
Energy drives the wave, the fluctuations rise and fall. No tiny strings necessary.
As consciousness also goes past to future, while the perceptions, emotions and thoughts giving it form and structure go future to past, it would seem worth considering that consciousness manifests as a form of energy.
Though it is the digestive system processing the energy and feeding the flame, while the nervous system sorts the patterns, signals from the noise, so there is that intellectual bias towards trying to make sense of the patterns/information, while the dynamic processes and networks generating them lack the static clarity of the patterns, so tend to get short shrift in the endless, reductionist debates and search for that ultimate grain of truth.
Science tends to have a similar problem with energy, as with consciousness, in that it can only be defined by the forms it expresses, so is dismissed as effect, not cause. The verbs being effected by the nouns.
One thing that is worth noting is that the process of forming structure is inherently centripetal. What collects around that initial node would be an obvious example, but also consider that with galaxies, the structure coalesces in, while the energy radiates out. Yet what energy that it radiate out, is what is not being incorporated in the structures, or is lost as they break down. So in a sense, it is the noise.
Consider that when you look at something, the color you see is not the parts of the spectrum being absorbed, but those radiated back out. Yet because you see it, you are absorbing it.
"One man's trash is another man's treasure." One man's noise is another man's signal.
Consider as well that anything actually falling into the black holes in the center of galaxies would seem to be shot out the poles as quasars. Which are like giant lasers and lasers are synchronized light waves.
So there would seem to be this duality between the light, the energy, versus the forms/waves it generates.
One going out and to the future, one going in and to the past.
Now our consciousness would seem to have this love/hate relationship with the forms that create and define our existence. What limits, defines, what defines, limits.
So we are constantly trying to build these perfect models, that incorporate everything, but end up like little puppies, chasing our tails.
