A very informative article.

One additional point that might be worth considering is that as our cultures and societies build up a collective memory, it requires a process of prior and thus less informed generations passing on their knowledge and cultural formulations to succeeding generations. Which often do not have any way to examine the premises on which this system is based. So it is effectively impossible to really go back and analyze the foundational principles, only patch the gaps that come along and adapt the old systems to current realities.

Is this a serious long term problem, that some of our cultural foundations are not just built on potentially unstable ground, but are themselves the cause of some of our modern problems?

Given it seems we are headed for a colossal reality check, it might be worth it to take this conversation about our intellectual origins as far as possible and truly explore what might be our nature, as opposed to the various cultural molds and boxes we find ourselves in.
