Actually it's the math that's screwed up. What 1+1=2 really means, if you add two sets of one, you have one set of two. Like adding all the ingredients of a cake and getting one cake. 1+1=1.
It's not like the big shots are any better.
When they first realized that cosmic redshift increases proportional to distance in every direction, it created a problem. Either redshift is an optical effect and the only way known at the time was interference, aka, "tired light." Yet the light isn't otherwise disrupted, so that didn't seem likely, so they decided that space itself must be expanding, because "spacetime!"
Which, if they bothered to think it through, doesn't work either, because the central premise of Relativity is the speed of light is always measured as a constant in any frame, so if space were to expand relativistically, the speed of light would also have to increase proportionally.
Instead, there are two metrics being derived from the same light, one based on the speed and one based on the spectrum. If the speed were the numerator, it would be a tired light theory, but since it's an "expanding space" theory, the speed is still the implicit denominator. The ruler against which this expansion is measured. So back to the same problem.
One way light does redshift over distance, is as multi spectrum "packets," as the higher frequencies dissipate faster, but that would mean we are sampling a wave front, not seeing individual photons that travelled billions of years. So the quantification of light would be a function of the absorption required to measure it, not fundamental to the light, so then Quantum Mechanics would have a big hole in the bottom of its boat and that can't happen. Better just park it on a sandbar.
As for death, life is like a sentence. The end is just punctuation. What matters is how well you tie the rest of the story together.
We are these mobile organisms, so this sentient interface between body and situation functions as a sequence of perceptions, in order to navigate, so our concept of time is as the point of the present, moving past to future.
The reality is that change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns.
There is no "dimension" of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
Energy is "conserved," because it manifests this presence, creating time, temperature, pressure, color and sound. Time is frequency, events are amplitude.
So the energy goes "past to future," because the patterns it generates coalesce and dissolve, future to past. Energy drives the wave, while the fluctuations rise and fall. No tiny strings necessary.
Consciousness also goes past to future, while the perceptions, emotions and thoughts giving it form and structure go future to past. Though it's the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems processing the energy and feeding the flame, while the central nervous system sorts the information, signals from the noise.
So it would seem consciousness is a form of energy and energy is conserved. That the forms it manifest change is the reality.
Logically a spiritual absolute would be that essence of sentience, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell. More the light shining through the film, than what the images on it purport to do.
Ideals are not absolutes, but that never seemed to occur to the philosophers.
Can you image a society where every idiot assumed their fondest ideals were universal and absolute?!!
Oh, wait...
