Admittedly we have lived in a fairly peaceful era of human history and we do acclimatize to what we assume to be the norm, but suffering has its functions.

Imagine life without it and there is no real growth, just expanding infantilism.

People did not evolve sensitivities to need constant protection from any harm, but to be more aware of danger and opportunity. Pleasure without pain would be like good without bad, or on without off, yes without no, white without black.

As for suffering, our system is certainly already perpetuating it on many people around the world. How do we change the situation, other than clearly understanding the processes at work and figuring out how to improve them, not by simply crying about their effects.

More light, less heat.
