Although, if the universe were infinite and redshift an optical effect, this would be the light of ever further sources, shifted off the visible spectrum. Given it would be from infinite sources would explain its black body characteristics, while those sources just beyond the horizon of visible light would explain the faint patterns in it.
When BBT was first proposed, it was assumed there would be no mature galaxies above a redshift of z=7. Then it became z=10. So far the James Webb has found galaxies out to z=16.7.
