America really is humanity washing up against the edge of the petri dish and we really need another paradigm. This go forth and multiply, atomized, quantitized, monetized search for the pot of gold at the end of the narrative arc has to come to terms with nature being cyclical, reciprocal and feedback generated.
For example, time isn't the point of the present moving past to future, it's change turning future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because th earth turns. Our minds are sequential, but yesterday doesn't cause today, the sun shining on a spinning planet creates this cycle of days and nights.
A spiritual absolute would be the essence of sentience, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell. We have this top down presumption, but life evolved bottom up and we keep having to break through the crusts we keep wrapping ourselves in.
For example, money is the social contract enabling mass societies to function, not a commodity to mine from them. We are linear and goal oriented, but a medium is not a store. Blood is a medium, while fat is a store.
Storing monetary wealth is like storing electricity. We will eventually have to resurrect the commons, but not until the current system well and truly crashes and burns, because people really are not as bright as they think. Change happens one funeral at a time.
Maybe our great grandchildren....
