In fact, it wasn't quite clear whether the West would join the Nazis against the Soviets, or the Soviets against the Nazis. Our oligarchs certainly preferred the Nazi model over the Soviet model. They would have preferred they fight it out and both get beat down. It was only when the pathologies became evident that it was settled.
