As I like pointing out, epicycles were brilliant math, as description, but crysalline sphere were lousy physics, as explanation and physics still insists on the math as foundational, when it is the map, not the territory. Spactime is the modern version of crysalline spheres.

That's the mental bias. We are naturally reductionist in our thinking, but that gives us forms, not causes. It's like boiling a body down to the skeleton and thinking that's the seed from which it sprang.

There's a reason why the people who run armies are called generals and specialist is about one rank above private. Physics is very much about extracting information from the extremes and ignoring the overall reality. It might give us great technology, but be clueless about how it all fits together.
