As someone somewhat on the edge of the culture, having grown up around more horses and cattle, than people and early on realized much of the formal education I was receiving was more indoctrination into systems inimical to my sanity, I've come to realize the social software, of which science is a part, is very buggy.
Consider time;
As these mobile organisms, this sentient interface our body has with its situation functions as a sequence of perceptions, in order to navigate, so our experience of time is as the present moving past to future. It's the basis of cultures and the emergent civilizations, as narrative. Physics codifies it as measures of duration.
Yet the underlaying reality is that activity and the resulting change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. Duration is the present, as the events come and go.
There is no dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
Different clocks can run at different rates simply because they are separate actions. Think metabolism.
That society is about synchronizing our behaviors as a larger social organism, using the same languages, rules and measures, it might seem there should be some universal flow of time, but not everything marches to the beat of the same drummer.
Energy is "conserved," because it manifests this presence, creating time, temperature, pressure, color and sound. Frequencies and amplitudes, rates and degrees.
Ideal gas laws correlate volume with temperature and pressure, which are as foundational to our emotions and bodily functions, as sequence is to thought, but we don't confuse them with space.
The energy goes past to future, because the patterns generated come and go, future to past. Energy drives the wave, the fluctuations rise and fall. No tiny strings necessary.
Consciousness also goes past to future, while the perceptions, emotions and thoughts giving it form and structure go future to past. The digestive system processes the energy, feeding the flame, while the nervous system sorts the patterns, forms, information, with the circulation system as feedback in the middle.
Given that galaxies are energy radiating out, as structure coalesces in, it is a pervasive dichotomy.
Essentially thermodynamics.
Consider the probable reason structure coalesces, while the manifesting energy radiates, is that synchronization is as entropic for this essential wave action, as expanding is to the radiation.
While most energy is radiated out by the cycles of fusion and fission, what actually falls into the vortices/black holes at the center of galaxies, is shot out the poles as quasars. Which are like giant lasers and lasers are synchronized light waves.
Then apply this to our thought processes;
Presumably we sort signal from the noise as what might seem most logical, but what we most hear in all the noise, is what resonates with our prior information. Then we bond to that which we most identify. Much as a tool becomes one with the hand, or a good book becomes one with the mind.
Then we bond to those on similar wavelengths.
Yet sometimes the core ideals are more a function of appealing to the most people, thus most basic, or have been standards for longer than anyone can remember, so also not terribly well thought out.
The spiraling down the various rabbit holes syndrome.
Currently it seems our core principle is profit, so all social, environmental, cultural value is being dissolved to its monetized equivalent. Though the only way to store the asset side of the ledger is a debt to back it.
The Ancients devised debt jubilees as circuit breakers to this particular feedback loop, but here we are, stuck in the same doom loop.
The science and math might be more complicated, but all the "shut up and calculate" in the world is still "garbage in, garbage out," if the premises are flawed.
