Benjamin,
I tend to think of it as intellectual evolution. Our ‘go forth and multiply,’ ‘go west, young man,’ directionality is reaching the edge of the petri dish and we will have to cycle back, whether we want to, or not.
As I tell my daughter, it’s all educational.
I just think that in doing so, we could better incorporate the feedback mechanisms driving this process into our conceptual paradigm.
