Consciousness is this sentient perceptiveness that functions as interface between our body and its situation. As mobile organisms, it functions as a sequence of perceptions, so that we can navigate our surroundings.
One consequence is that we conceive of the flow of time as the present moving past to future.
Which is the basis of culture and civilization, as narrative and history. As such, is the basis of human knowledge, as the process of perception builds on prior experiences and knowledge. Like rings of a tree.
Yet the evident reality is that activity and the resulting change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. Potential, actual, residual.
There is no dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform nd drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
Energy is conserved, because it manifests this presence, creating time, temperature, pressure, color, sound, as frequencies and amplitudes, rates and degrees.
So the energy, as this presence, goes past to future, because the patterns it generates coalesce and dissolve, future to past.
Energy drives the wave, the fluctuations rise and fall. No tiny strings necessary.
Consciousness also goes past to future, while the perceptions, emotions and thoughts giving it form and structure go future to past.
The digestive system processes the energy, feeding the flame, the nervous system sorts the information, signals from the noise, with the circulation system as feedback in the middle.
Suggesting that consciousness is manifest as an energy.
Science tends to have the same problem with energy, as with consciousness, in that it can only be described, defined and formulated in terms of the ways it is expressed. Yet these expressions are not synonymous with the underlaying cause, as they go opposite directions of time.
Now the mind is a focusing and refereeing of the sentience bubbling up. The lens which coalesces our various impulses into an individual.
Which is why we are often conflicted by our various wants and needs.
The anarchies of desire versus the tyrannies of judgement.
Just as societies have to organize as communities and select for what is most healthy and stabilizing, though occasionally losing control and breaking into factions.
The energies of youth, versus the lessons of age.
In politics, as liberal and conservative.
If we better understood this interplay, we would be better able to deal with it.
Even galaxies are the energy radiating out, as the structure coalesces in. While our little blue dot is somewhere in the middle, where the feedback is most complex.
