Consider how the dynamic cycle of expansion and consolidation permeates every aspect of our being as well as our thought process.
We take in the available information, then organize it into some structured pattern, which then provides the foundation for the next cycle, the next generation, the next paradigm. Like rings of a tree, or layers of a pearl.
Yet what happens when we make assumptions that get incorporated into the system, but are flawed?
For example, in a geocentric cosmology, we are the center of our point of view, so it's entirely valid to construct a geometric model of it. Which was done to a great degree of accuracy and predictive effectiveness.
One which was completely logical to keep adding patches, as more evidence and observations came in, because we remain our own point of view. We still think of the sun rising in the east and setting in the west.
When we consider how much of human culture and civilization is this constant layering on of what came previously, it isn't surprising so much of society gets wrapped up in belief systems that feed on themselves and any anomalies can be patched. At least until the disconnect gets so great that something other than another patch has to be considered.
Then we get these civilizational crises, but how are they to be resolved?
Obviously those with the most influence are those most benefiting and dominant in the current paradigm, so the impulse to keep patching and kicking the can a little futher down the road is going to keep occurring. Yet that makes the degree of destruction required to keep up the facade that much greater.
Then consider this process has gone on since the dawn of civilzation. The point where we transitioned from having to be primarily situationally aware and mistakes were generally fatal, to where the collective process of education came to dominate and going with the crowd outweighed questioning its direction.
Just to give an example of the depth of potential fallacies, one of the points I try making is about the nature of time.
As these mobile organisms, we have this sequential process of perception, in order to navigate an environment in which we are somewhat physically distinct. Then having evolved narrative based cultures, the notion of time as the point of the present, moving past to future, is integral to who we are. In physics it's codified as measures of duration and correlated with measures of distance. The linear abstraction of movement.
Yet change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. Duration is the present, as the events unfold.
Sequence is not fundamental. Yesterday doesn't cause today, the sun shining on a spinning planet creates this cycle of days and nights.
There can be no literal dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
Energy is "conserved," because it is the present, not some dimensionless point between past and future.
Making time an effect, similar to temperature, pressure, color, sound. Frequencies and amplitudes. Time is frequency, events are amplitude.
So energy, as process, goes past to future, while the patterns generated go future to past. Energy drives the wave, while the fluctuations rise and fall.
Even consciousness goes past to future, while thoughts go future to past, but not to get too off topic.
Though it is the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems processing the energy, while the central nervous system sorts and orders the information.
Which goes much, much further into the weeds, if energy is not synonymous with the information extracted from it, given quanta are information.
Though back to the dynamic of how our collective thought process becomes mired in its own social feedback loops, rather than being able to look outside them. As it is safe to say that I've been banned from a number of places for raising the above point and not bowing to time and space as actually geometric dimensions, as opposed to geometry being an abstraction.
Not sure where you might fall, in this spectrum of authority versus logic, but it is only one example of a fair number of observations I could make, about how deep some of those conceptual fallacies are built into our culture and given the degree to which they might threaten postions of authority, will be ostracised.
Yet there is only so far we can go into time traveling through wormholes in the fabric of spacetime, multiverses, or even treating the medium of exchange enabling mass society, as a commodity to mine from society, before the distortions destabilize the entire global Tower of Babel.
