Consider that people are fauna. We have evolved to move around our environment, not simply root into it and spread out. One logical consequence is that our biological sentience coalesces as a sequence of perceptions, in order to navigate. Basically the brain is constantly creating perceptions of its environment, which occurs as sequence, because our most primal necessity is to navigate. It's like a movie camera takes a series of stills, otherwise it would be whiteout.
So our experience of time is as this point of the present proceeding from prior to succeeding events. Physics codifies is as measures of duration.
The reality, for those of us not addicted to chalk dust, is that change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. Duration is the present, as the events rise and fall.
There is no dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
Energy is conserved, because it is the present. It creates time, as well as temperature, pressure, color and sound. Time is frequency, events are amplitude.
Consequently the energy goes past to future, while the patterns generated go future to past. Energy drives the wave, while the fluctuations rise and fall.
Consciousness also goes past to future, while the thoughts, emotions and perceptions giving it form and structure go future to past. Though it is the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems processing the energy, feeding the flame, while the central nervous system sorts the information. So there is an intellectual focus on the patterns, rather than the processes generating them.
Epicycles were brilliant math, as description, while the crystalline spheres were lousy physics, as explanation.
We have to take our own point of view into account.
