Current cosmology isn’t science, because it can’t be falsified. Every time they find a gap between prediction and observation, rather than going back and examining everything with a fine toothed comb, they just add some enormous, otherwise invisible force of nature and everyone dances around it, like children around a maypole.
For example, dark energy has been completely misinterpreted and no one bothers to correct or try to make sense of what was originally proposed.
Given the original “bang” started expanding the universe at nearly the speed of light, it can’t “accelerate.” What was originally assumed was that the universe slowed at a constant rate since then, but what was found was the rate of redshift dropped off rapidly for the first 7 billion years and then flattened out to a more constant rate. To use a ballistics analogy, it would be if the universe were shot out of a cannon and then after slowing, a rocket motor kicked in, to maintain a more stable rate and “dark energy” is the explanation for the rocket.
Before Inflation, Dark Matter and Energy, the original patch to Big Bang theory was when they realized the redshift increases equally and proportionally in all directions, creating the impression that we must be at the center of the universe. So it was changed from an expansion in space, to an expansion OF space, because “spacetime!” Which totally ignores the essential premise of General Relativity and the reason for spacetime; That the speed of light is always measured as a Constant. Obviously if intergalactic light is being redshifted as it crosses intergalactic space, it is NOT Constant to the distance!
Two metrics of space are being derived from the same light. One based on its spectrum and the other based on its speed. Since the only evidence of this expansion is the redshifted light, then the expansion is Relative to the speed! There are more lightyears between galaxies, not stretched lightyears. So the speed is still being treated as the denominator.
While most physics fans ignore this point, one of the few objections I get is the speed is local, while the expansion is universal, but that ignores the fact the expansion would have to be local, in order to be universal. It has to be expanding everywhere the light travels, without affecting the speed of the light. So what is the basis, the metric that light is measuring, if not space?
Of course, we are at the center of our point of view and so an optical effect might be worth considering. Probably one what compounds on itself, creating the parabolic increase in the rate of redshift, outwards, from our point of view, supposedly explained by Dark Energy.
While single spectrum light only redshifts by recession, multi-spectrum light redshifts over distance, because the higher spectrums dissipate faster than the lower ones, but that raises the question of whether photons are irreducible units, or simply the smallest measurable units and we are actually sampling a wave front.
If redshift is optical, than the cosmic background radiation would be the light of ever further sources, shifted off the visible spectrum and the solution to Olber’s paradox. Given the James Webb space telescope is supposed to explore this energy, one wonders what stories will be given to explain its findings.
Or we can just chase after multiverses and not ask too many questions.
