Healthcare and education are rackets, the doors and wheels are falling off the airplanes, even the military is an ineffectual boondoggle, no matter how sociopathic the politicians, because it's all about how much you can suck out, not how much you add.
Just like villages, societies have to function as a larger organism, with individuals as cells, otherwise it becomes necrotic. Which it currently is.
It's not like the large majority are not perfectly happy to be part of the herd. Just try going against it, as I've had ample experience.
