Dan,
Given we seem to have civil order breaking down in many respects, from corruption at the top, to disruption at the bottom and those in the middle not sure what and who to believe, would it be worth examining it from a purely analytical view, than trying to use other events to frame this moment in time?
I would make the argument that there is a fundamental dichotomy to nature, as well as humanity, between the energy propelling us, versus the forms and patterns defining and directing that energy.
As individuals, we have the gut and heart processing and circulating the energy driving us, while the head has to sort though the myriad emotions bubbling up and fit them to external circumstances, based on the flow of information it extracts and orders.
While society has the energy of life and youth bubbling up through it, which propels the civil and cultural forms that have evolved through the ages and with age, to sort and order it.
So we are at a stage where that bottom up energy and the cultural forms are in turmoil, while the civil structures seem to be imploding into corrupt self regard. Which is the reason for revolutions. The collapse of the old order and eventual replacement with some new order. Though in fits and starts, as it is filtered through personalities and circumstances.
Just as we often have conflicting emotions, so too does society have conflicting interests and it is the function of the prevailing order to decide which to enable, which to tolerate and which to suppress, so the tendency toward corruption, of benefiting those in positions of power over many others seems inevitable. Until such times as the positive feedback loops enabling the structure turn to negative feedback loops and the current order, like so many others, disappears under the waves.
As you’ve read some of my writings, you probably know my thoughts on Capitalism, as the extraction of value, hiding under cover of free markets, the circulation of value, so I won’t go too far into the details, but given much of our modern world is built on the debts necessary to back the assets, this equivalent of a national home loan is about to meet the future it is drawn on.
Given this is the paradigm guiding our world today, it does seem that it should be an issue up for debate, given the old order can only cling to power for so long, before total anarchy arises.
As I keep pointing out, public debt backing private wealth is the secret souce of Capitalism. The foundations of our society are not built on rock, but on feedback loops and they are about to go from positive to negative.
