Does it occur to you that liberal and conservative are a rather basic dichotomy? You could go to any social group in the world, or throughout history and there will be those pushing the bounds of convention, civil and cultural forms, versus those seeking to sustain and re-enforce them.

Yes, our cultures do grow old and stagnant and need to be refreshed and reset on occasion, but that is as foundational as the cycle of seasons.

I'm not trying to pop your bubble of moral rectitude, just trying to point out there are other ways to understand what is going on, than just another version of us, versus them.
