Empathize. I have epilepsy and having had to collect the scattered parts of my mind and put them back together enough, I realize it's just one little node in the network. It's all in our brains, like the internet is all in our computer.
Here is a thought; As mobile organisms, our experience coalesces as a sequence of perceptions, in order to navigate, so our concept of time is as the point of the present moving past to future. Civilization is built on the collective narrative and even physics codifies it as measures of duration.
The reality is that change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. Duration is the present, as the events rise and fall.
There is no dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
Different clocks can run at different rates simply because they are separate actions. Think metabolism.
That culture is about getting everyone following the same stories and rules and using the same measures, it might seem there is some universal Newtonian flow of time, but it's rabbit time, turtle time, etc. That nature is so diverse, dense and integrated, is because everything doesn't march to the beat of the same drummer.
Energy is "conserved," because it is the present, creating time, as well as temperature, pressure, color and sound. Time is frequency, events are amplitude.
So the energy, as present, goes past to future, while the patterns generated go future to past. Energy drives the wave, the fluctuations rise and fall. No tiny strings necessary.
Consciousness also goes past to future, while the perceptions, emotions and thoughts giving it form and structure go future to past. Though it's the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems processing the energy, feeding the flame, while the central nervous system sorts the information. Signals from the noise.
Motor and steering. The anarchies of desire, versus the tyrannies of judgement.
Galaxies are energy radiating out, as structure coalesces in. So we are just surfing the wave and it is us.
