For one thing, free will is an oxymoron, as without cause, there is no effect and the premise of will is to affect.

The problem is with the idea of determinism. The fact is, the act of determination can only occur as the present. That there is information coming from every direction, often at the speed of light, to every point in space and thus occurrence, the idea of predetermination is nonsense.

That our mental functions are not in immediate control of our motor functions is necessary for our reaction times. If it was evidence of "free will," than flies have more of it, than people. The function of the mind is to process information, so that future reactions are better informed.

Try telling an athlete they lack "free will," because they have trained their motor functions to react more quickly than their conscious thought process.
