For one thing, free will is an oxymoron. The function of will is to affect and without cause, there is no effect.

Determinism is bs, as well. The act of determination only occurs as the present. The future has not been fully computed.

We are mobile organisms, so this sentient interface our bodies have with their situation functions as a sequence of perceptions, in order to navigate, so we experience time as the present moving past to future, but the reality is that activity and the resulting change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns.

That our motor functions are not directly connected to our conscious state is a poor example of will, free or otherwise. Otherwise flies have more of it than we do.

The function of cognition and thought is to process the information and events we encounter, so future actions are better calibrated.
