I think though, there should be some fluidity and fuzziness to the concept of a medium.

When we see ourselves as separate, distinct individuals, it might seem like it gives us individual agency and power, but effectively it only allows us to be better manipulated by forces external to our own situation. It makes us more just interchangeable parts, than part of an organic whole.
