Fred,
A thought on dreams;
When we are awake, our consciousness is constantly creating impressions, deeply influenced by and imbedded with judgements, as an organic function of having to navigate our environment. Since we are constantly being bombarded with new information, these figments of mental construction quickly fade, as our minds reach out to create new images.
Yet when we are asleep, we don’t have overriding fresh information, so our minds just keep building on previous impressions and conclusions, leading us around in ever more strange circles.
The problem is that the more powerful and in control of our social context we are, the more our minds tend to build on and live in their own version of reality. As sort of a psychological basis for “power corrupts.”
Ultimately I think we are all the equivalent of leaves/flowers on a larger tree our fundamental desire is that little bit of sunlight necessary.
It also goes to the issue of time. With the narrative model, it’s all about the ends, so we have to keep climbing over everyone and everything. With the tendency for our minds to live out their dreams, the now doesn’t matter, but if there is only the now and everyone knows it, they will be far less likely to buy into the most convincing story about untold riches and follow those egomaniacs…
Just some errant thoughts before bed.
Regards,
John
