Having grown up around more horses and cattle, than people, my sense is that culture is part of what leads us astray. We learn what our elders teach us and they theirs, going back to the origins.
Consider time;
As these mobile organisms, this sentient interface our body has with its situation functions as a sequence of perceptions, in order to navigate. So our experience of time is as the point of the present, moving past to future. It is the basis of culture and thus civilization, as narrative. Physics codifies it as measures of duration.
The evident reality though, for those of us dealing with nature on her own terms, is that activity and the resulting change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. Duration is the present, as the events come and go.
There is no dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
Different clocks can run at different rates simply because they are separate actions. Think metabolism.
The future is not determined, because the act of determination can only occur as the present. The future simply hasn't been fully computed yet.
Energy is conserved, because it manifests this presence, creating time, temperature, pressure, color and sound. Frequencies and amplitudes, rates and degrees.
So energy goes past to future, because the patterns generated coalesce and dissolve, future to past. Energy drives the wave, the fluctuations rise and fall. No tiny strings necessary.
Consciousness also goes past to future, while the perceptions, emotions and thoughts giving it form and structure go future to past. Though it is the digestive system processing the energy and feeding the flame, while the nervous system sorts the information and the circulation system is feedback in the middle.
Galaxies are energy radiating out, as structure coalesces in.
Thus our intellectual focus on the patterns/information, over the processes generating them.
As for the classical view of God, given the universal is the elemental, logically a spiritual absolute would be the essence of sentience, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell. More the light shining through the film, than the stories playing out on it.
While culture assumes good and bad to be some cosmic conflict, between righteousness and evil, in nature it's the basic biological binary of beneficial and detrimental. The 1/0 of sentience. What is good for the fox, is bad for the chicken.
The function of culture is to synchronize society as a larger social organism, but nature is some giant computational process. An ecosystem, where multitudes of such organisms and super organisms all interact, rising and falling, in overall harmony. Centripetal and centrifugal.
What holds communities together are the ideals, the creeds, codes, heroes, gods, that are the grain of sand at the center of the pearl, the center of gravity.
Which in biology and society, is a function of synchronization. That everyone on the same wavelength is more efficient and compact, thus more powerful.
So the question arises, is synchronization the basis of gravity itself?
Consider anything actually falling into the black holes is shot out as quasars. Which would seem to be giant lasers and lasers are synchronized light waves.
It would explain all the extra gravitational effect, if it is the properties assigned as mass that is an intermediate effect of this centripetal dynamic, between the barest bending of the light and the vortices at the center, rather than gravity a property of mass.
As for space, three dimensions are a mapping device, like longitude, latitude and altitude. Take away all the physical and the remaining qualities are infinity and equilibrium. which is implicit in the fact the field with the longest ruler and fastest clock is closet to the equilibrium of the vacuum.
So entropy for the energy is to radiate out, toward infinity. While entropy for the patterns/waves is to synchronize inward.
The music is more real than the matter.
