Here is another…
Consider the issue of time; As mobile, intentional organisms, our experience of this thing called reality is a sequence of perceptions, constantly being judged, as necessary function of navigation. Consequently we think of time as the point of the present flowing past to future.
Logically though, it is change turning future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. Potential, actual, residual.
So there can be no physical dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, in order to inform it. Causality and conservation of energy.
This property called “energy” is conserved, because there is no physical past for it to recede into, nor future from which it arrives. It is the changing configuration of this property called energy that creates “time.” Similar to temperature, pressure, color, etc. We could use ideal gas laws to correlate volume with temperature and pressure, but no one calls them the 5th and 6th dimensions of space, because they are only foundational to our emotions, bodily functions and environment, not the sequence of thought.
So the process churns along, past to future, while the patterns generated go future to past.
As consciousness goes past to future, while thoughts and feelings go future to past.
This thing called consciousness would then seem to function like energy, which is only distinguishable in terms of the patterns it generates. Much as a wave is only distinguishable in terms of frequency and amplitude, but they are not the energy propelling it.
Yet it’s not so much the head that’s producing this energy, as it is the heart and gut processing it. The head simply referees the emotions and impulses bubbling up, trying to give them some form, like a cresting wave.
Now down in the depths, is this consciousness singular, or is it the same, bubbling up through multitudes of organisms? Individual lives going future to past, birth to death, while the process of life, like energy and consciousness, flowing onto the next generation, shedding the old.
Sort of like the light of a film projector goes from one frame to the next, past to future, while the images flow past, future to past. The same light would seem to illuminate all the images.
We would seem to be both puppets and puppeteer.
