How much of that "humanization" is cultural self referential feedback, where we put ourselves on a pedestal and loose sight of how we came to be here?
Certainly there is quite a lot of evil flowing through people, much of which can be attributed to our own ego, reactions to fears, tribal/mob behavior, etc.
Maybe if we were to try to understand good and bad from the bottom up, as the biological binary of beneficial and detrimental, rather than constantly being driven by whatever Overton window our group insists, to see them as a cosmic conflict between righteousness and evil, we might much better understand our own reality and the ways it fits, both good and bad, into the larger flows of life.
If the powers that be were truly concerned for the welfare of the planet, rather than satisfying their own greed and ego, wouldn't a worldwide peace conference have been a good idea, long before the current spiral into war over some very propagandistic reasons?
My sense is our humanity is about at the level of a spoiled, ill tempered and not particularly bright adolescent, who wants every right and no responsibility.
