I can understand the calculation, that Israel took in all the Jews kicked out of these countries, after the creation of Israel, but then the other side is that they have taken in a bunch of Palestinians already and it's caused a fair amount of social tension.
As they say, if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.
As a younger child in a large family, I realized at a young age that there are two sides to every argument, or there wouldn't be an argument.
The real question isn't what we want, but what is likely to happen. Israel's real problem is that its strategic depth rests on a Western world that is facing major problems and has not always proven to be a reliable partner. While relying on an iron fist that is evidently wearing out the velvet glove.
My sense, as a handicapper, is that Israel is about where Ukraine was a year ago, trying to put a positive spin on a strategic mess.
If they just keep pushing the world toward a larger war, "from the river to the sea," would likely end up being one of those radioactive craters dotting the planet for the next couple hundred years.
