I suspect the cultural implications go pretty deep.

What you are alluding to here, in biology, is nature and nurture. Or, in terms of individuals and their context, organisms and ecosystems. Nodes and networks.

Yet we are tactile creatures, with a monist culture and reductionist thought processes, so the impulse toward atomism and its derivatives, quantization and string theory, goes to some pretty foundational biases.

Yet the fact that it is being carried to such extremes creates the consequent blowback to eventually examine the problem with far more objectivity than otherwise possible.

One basic physical factor being overlooked is the difference between synchronization and harmonization.

Synchronization is centripetal, in terms of coalescing myriad actions/fluctuations into one.

While harmonization is centrifugal, in that as energy expands out, while energy from surrounding areas radiates in, it creates a larger equilibrium.

So one is the basis for nodes/organisms, where the singular builds up from the environment, while the other is the basis for the network/environment.

One leading to black holes, the other to black body radiation.

Yet both are entropic. The absolute and the infinite.

This ties into an issue I keep raising about time.

That we model it as the point of the present moving past to future, which physics codifies as measures of duration, because we are mobile organisms and so our experience is a sequence of perceptions, in order to navigate.

Though change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. Duration is the present, as the events come and go.

There is no literal dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Aka, causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.

So energy, as present and process, goes past to future, while the patterns generated go future to past.

In terms of a wave, the energy drives it, while the fluctuations rise and fall.

So when we try to frame it is singular, rather than a dichotomy, God, rather than yin and yang, it's like trying to understand positive charge and ignoring negative charge.

I think there are a lot of implications to this, but it's hard getting a conversation started.

I did post an entry in medium's recently announced contest; https://johnbrodixmerrymanjr.medium.com/the-qualities-of-space-3079485a48aa

That frames it in terms of space.
