I think the dualism really is foundational. Even matter is more positive and negative charge, than any actual substance.

The universe is equilibrium and infinity. The energy radiates out, toward infinity, while the structure coalesces inward, toward equilibrium. Both are entropic. Black holes and black body radiation.

The tendency toward seeing it as one naturally gravitates inward, toward equilibrium. The totem in the middle, is how societies and religions tend to focus it.

Consider the dichotomy of conservative versus liberal, is the conservative side tends toward tradition, structure, civil order, etc, while the liberal side tends toward renewal, energy, expansion of social boundaries, etc. Obviously somewhat corrupted by our current obsession with the bottom line, but any society that ever existed would have that tension of energies propelling it on, versus the structures and strictures giving it definition and structure. The anarchies of desire, versus the tyrannies of judgement. Heart and head.

So when you try to define it as one, without that very clear exposition of the two sides of the coin, people tend to polarize to one side or the other and assumed the opposing side must be inherently wrong, if not evil.

Not appreciating the dynamic underlaying the details.
