I think the problems go much deeper than Israel.

The logical fallacy of Western monotheism, the Catholic "All-knowing absolute," is that ideals are not absolutes. Imagine, if you will, someone who viewed their ideals as absolute and you have framed the entire Western mindset.

To the Jews, the ideal is the tribe, to the Catholics, it is authority, to the Muslims, it is law, to the Protestants, it is love.

Keep in mind, democracy and republicanism originated in pantheistic cultures. To the Ancients, gods were metaphors.
