I think there are far more basic concepts at work, that are overlooked.

Primarily the relationship between nodes and networks. Organisms and ecosystems.

The Western paradigm is very object oriented, from atoms to individuals. Yet the reality is more the feedback between the synchronization of the node, everything on the same wavelength, versus the harmonization of the network. Everything eventually balancing out and trading energies around.

Even galaxies are the energy radiating out, as the structure coalesces in.

The current problem is when our cultures become messianic, there is no negotiation. Yet the foundational concept of the West is monotheism. The ideal as absolute. For Judaism, it is the tribe. For Catholicism, it is the Authority of the Church and the Pope. For many of the various Christian denominations, various interpretations of Jesus serve as the locus. For Islam, it is more the Law as sacred.

Yet what if every Bronze Age tribe considered its core code, spirit, etc as absolute? There would have never been Anglo-Saxons, just Angles and Saxons in eternal war.

Essentially the Zionists are re-litigating the conflict the Maccabees had with the Romans. That they were not going to be part of any larger world network. That their tribal god was beyond earthly.

The fact is that religions are like the childhood memories of culture. They might be foundationally important to the development of what follows, but still need to be taken with a few grains of salt.

Simply trying to litigate what ethics apply to war is too far down that slippery slope to really understand the forces at work.

The irony is that Diaspora Judaism grew wealthy and powerful as the strong social bonds allowed it to be significant aspects of the networking mechanisms of Western Culture. The traders, bankers, intellectuals, media, etc, tying all the civil, social and economic nodes together.

Which was then tithed to this state of Israel. Which having that 2000 year break in its civil evolution, of having way too many shamans, aka, rabbis and no chieftains, sustained that illusion of separateness.

As an echo chamber, Israel is a cult, not just a culture.

That the rest of the West is so intellectually hollowed out, that Donald Trump has become the Great White Whale of the establishment should be evidence that it really is a delusional bubble and your students will have to be the ones picking up the pieces after it pops.
