I think we are. I was using up and down metaphorically, as reference to all the ways reality balances out.
Space is zero to infinity. In Special Relativity it seems obvious but un-noted that the frame with the longest ruler and fastest clock is closest to the equilibrium of the vacuum. So space is equilibrium, as in absolute zero and infinity.
If and when the James Webb Space Telescope gets up and working, I think they will see the cosmic background radiation to be the light of ever further sources, shifted off the visible spectrum, not evidence of some primordial event or state. The measure of space inbetween galaxies, as cosmic redshift, curves out proportionally to the rate the measure of space within galaxies, as gravity, contracts. Balance. Not expansion.
