I think we need to address some deeper conceptual issues before we can properly understand how money and markets effectively function. We are linear, goal oriented creatures in a cyclical, reciprocal, feedback driven reality. Consequently we build up these enormous social and civilizational waves, not seeing the eventual fall back down and being able to properly comprehend and deal with it. That's why market economies work better than planned economies, because they function as an ecosystem, while a centrally planned one results in an organism. Which goes through the life cycle of a singuler entity.
It is just that the powers that be come to dominate the market and the money, turning the process into a larger organism. What goes round, comes round.
