I would argue it is all tactics in the larger conflict between East and West.

If Russia wanted to destroy America, they could drip a few dozen nuclear warheads across the country. We would do the same in return.

If China wanted to destroy America, they could drop a few trillion in US treasuries on the bond markets. Yes, it would make the trillions they still hold worthless, but if it comes to war....

It does seem Turkey is the perennial wind vane in the middle and while this seems to benefit Erdogan and Israel the most, in the big picture, is it a tactical, or strategic success?

Like all these devious moves in the middle, the reactions and blowback are inevitable and necessarily of equal if not greater force, as it all spirals into the vortex.
