I would argue the reason Stoicism has become so popular is that much of Western philosophy is fairly clueless. So an attitude of numbness becomes the logical out.
We have a linear, goal oriented, idealist monism as the default assumption, in a reality that is more a cyclical, reciprocal, feedback driven tension of polarities. More the yin and yang, than God Almighty.
Logically a spiritual absolute would be the essence of sentience, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell. Consciousness seeking knowledge, than any form of it.
Even though the premise of this one true God has lost its infallibility, the essential, reductionist presumption remains, that everything boils down to one real state, from materialism, to the bottom line.
Matter is more a tension of positive and negative charge, than a particular substance.
The bottom line is more signal from the noise, but noise is context of the signal. Which applies across the spectrum. The nodes of truth are meaningless without the context of the network from which they rise.
My own effort to make sense of an increasingly lost world;
