I would certainly agree a lot of culture, not just modern, is pathological.
Yet that is a fact of reality. There is no more good without bad, than there is up without down.
Wishing it was all sweetness and light isn't going to make it so.
To cultures, good and bad are that cosmic conflict between the forces of righteousness and evil, because it is the function of culture to synchronize society into that larger communal super organism, based on the same languages, laws, measures, etc.
Yet the reality is that good and bad are the basic biological binary of beneficial and detrimental. The 1/0 of sentience.
Often too much of a good thing can be bad and our intelligence is a consequence of dealing with the problems, than basking in the benefits.
Simply sticking a patch over the tear in the previous patches doesn't solve the deeper issues.
How well do we understand reality?
For instance, is time this flow from past to future, or is it change turning future to past?
