I wrote this after reading this and the previous article;
A couple of arguments; For one thing, people are linear and goal oriented, while nature is cyclical, reciprocal and feedback driven, so you are projecting out from your experience, but "for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."
Consider that efficiency is to do more with less, so the end state of efficiency will be when everything is done with nothing. That is where your model leads.
Consider that the logical fallacy of monotheism is that a spiritual absolute would necessarily be the essence of sentience, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell. The fact we are aware, than the details of which we are aware.
So what drives us is this element of awareness, not the forms it expresses.
Consider the notion of time as the point of the present moving past to future; As these mobile organisms, we logically evolved a sequential process of perception in order to navigate our envionment, which we then order and judge, to guide us. Then as humanity we developed a narrative based culture, from telling stories about our experiences. So naturally we think of time as this flow from past to future, which physics codifies as measures of duration.
The reality though, is that change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. Duration is the present, as the events form and dissolve.
There is no literal dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
Energy is "conserved," because it is the present. Its changing form creates time. As well as temperature, pressure, color and sound.
Frequencies and amplitudes. Time is frequency, events are amplitude.
So the energy, as process, goes past to future, while the patterns generated go future to past.
In a factory the product goes start to finish, while the production line goes the other way, consuming material and expelling product.
Lives go birth to death, while life moves onto the next generation, shedding the old.
Consciousness goes past to future, while the perceptions, emotions and thoughts it manifests go future to past.
Which suggests consciousness functions as an energy. We do have the same problem with energy, as with consciousness, in that we only experience them in terms of the forms they express. Yet these forms do come and go, future to past, while the energy/consciousness goes onto the next. The energy drives the wave, while we see the fluctuations rising and falling.
Though it is our digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems processing the energy driving us on, while the central nervous system sorts the forms expressed.
Which leaves us in this constant tension between the heart and the head, the anarchy of desire versus the tyranny of judgement.
Even galaxies are energy radiating out, as form coalesces in. We evolved in this thermodynamic convection cycle this dichotomy manifests.
Our polical polarity is between liberal desire and conservative judgement. Those seeking to transcend culture and those seeking to enforce it. Motor and steering.
So what are the odds this process will simply create technical information processors to replace current biological organisms? Might this be projecting our tools as our gods? We did this with previous tools. Money comes to mind.
Yet the current economic situation suggests enormous blowback is building against a financial system intent on consuming the economy on which it is based, like some metastatic cancer.
Nature remains circular and cyclical. The world is round, not flat. What goes round, comes round.
Possibly life on this planet is coalescing as some unitary organism, with humanity as its central nervous system, yet as the function of the nervous system is to sustain the entire organism, not just dwell in its own addictions, we still have a long way to go.
Hopefully more toward the end of the beginning, than the beginning of the end.
