If you really want to play chess at the big kids table, you need to see the entire board and not just one of the pawns.
Ukraine is a pawn. Will it go the way of the other pawns, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, etc.
To figure that out, you have to dig into the forces actually driving the game.
Ask yourself, has there ever been a time in history, where the military misadventures of even a fraction of the degree the US has been subject too, wouldn't have had those responsible lined up and shot?
Yet our buffoons get showered with metals and money.
The reality is the military industrial complex is the trophy wife of the banks.
While we think of money as a commodity to mine from society, the fact is it's a contract, enabling it. It is a medium of exchange, an accounting device, that we assume to be a store of value. In order to store the asset side of the ledger, you have to create a debt to back it. While much of the financial sector seems focused on the stock market, the real money is in the bond market and much of that is government debt.
The secret sauce of capitalism is public debt, backing private wealth.
Government, as executive and regulatory function, is analogous to the central nervous system, while money and banking mirror blood and the circulation system.
While we have evolved to understand government works best as a public utility, we haven't yet realized the same principle applies to banking. When the medium enabling markets is privately held, we are all just tenant farmers to the banks.
So since banking isn't subject to the same levels of oversight and doesn't have to work around election cycles, it has, over the course of the last century, hollowed out much of government, leaving a bunch of flunkies, prostitutes, grifters and psychopaths to fill the roles, whose only real job is to create the debt the banks need to function.
After that, they can do as they please and since they have all the strategic aptitude of bacteria racing across a petri dish, anything vulnerable becomes food and becomes putrid.
That is what you might want to consider, as the dynamic grows bored with Ukraine. Those at your back don’t always have your best interests at heart.
Sort of like the farmer slopping the hogs.
