I'm coming at it from the other direction. I'm a bit of the outcast/black sheep.

When my mother's grandfather was governor of Maryland, my father's grandfather was his secretary of agriculture.

One of my ancestors, Louis McLane Jr, essentially founded Wells Fargo. He had the stage coaches, Wells and Fargo were the investors. His father, Sr, was Jackson's Secretary of the Treasury, at least until the blow up over the Second Bank of the United States, when he was switched to State for being too compromising with the bankers.

Couple of the local towns are Hereford and Monkton, because the Merrymans came from a place called Monkton, in Herefordshire. Legend is the name came from Robin Hood and the Merry Men. The family church is Sherwood Episcopal.

Which is to say, my sense of rootedness comes from society, as well as being a farmer and growing up around more horses and cattle, than people.

So no need to go along with all the current bs, just to be part of the show. Then slowly realizing the bs is far deeper than anyone seems to realize.
