I'm not conversant in Hinduism and it would certainly take a lifetime to really understand it, though religions exist in a feedback loop with their societies.

It's my sense the West is monotheistic, because of the historical influence of the Roman Empire.

While India needed a religion to reflect and explain the multitudes of cultural aspects.
