In its most basic form, thermodynamics is that relationship between energy expanding and form coalescing.

In the atmosphere, in which we evolved, the heat builds up, until it cools and settles back down. Though on the galactic scale, light radiates out, as mass coalesces in. Then on the biological level, we have the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems propelling us on, as the central nervous system sorts and orders the forms precipitating out.

In society, we have economic processes driving us on, as civil and cultural forms coalesce into order and structure.

So organisms, from cells to ecosystems, have this feedback between sychronization of entities, coalescing in, versus the harmonization across broader networks, as energies extend out and mix with other energies and entities.

Not a totally complete thought, but as these mobile organisms, we try to organize everything in terms of sequence and that is like seeing the earth as flat.
