Intention implies specificity. What drives us is that we desire, not the objects of our desire. Curiosity itself, rather than what it explores. Yet this drive then seeks ways and grounds to grow and expand. Which then stabilize and settle into forms and objects of desire. Then they grow old and the desire seeks to transcend them. So it sets up this feedback between growth and structure, energy and order, youth and age, heart and head.

It is that we are goal oriented, relatively predatory creatures that this gets channeled in a linear fashion. Prey animals tend to have eyes toward the sides of their heads and are more spatially aware, because the food is easy, so the function of conscious awareness is to be on the lookout for predators. While we are more temporally aware, planning our next move, seeking our cake, then eating it and wanting more.

We organize this sequence of perceptions we have of our environment as a tool to navigate through it, thus narratives as defining culture and civilization, but yesterday doesn’t cause today, the sun shining on this spinning planet creates this cycle of days and nights.

So our sense of purpose and intent is a projection of this reductionist interpretation of reality, defined in terms of narrative flow, when it is more just that organic drive, trying to come to terms with an increasingly complex, feedback generated environment.

The secret is to learn not to bang your head on the wall, but to seek out the cracks and crevices, like grass through the concrete. Be your own growth, connecting with those in the same boat.

Transcendence, along with respect and understanding for what you seek to transcend, because what you create becomes the foundation for others to grow.

Humanity might soil its own nest, but life grows around the scars. Our descendants will be stronger for the trials we leave them, than from the comforts we create for them.
