It might be informative to step back and look at the physical and logical relationships underpinning these social and cultural manifestions.
The choice you seem to give is between a singular order and pluralism, but I think the essential relationship that has to be understand is between nodes and networks. Organisms and ecosystems.
People tend to fixate on entities, objects, goals, etc. and treat the networks, processes, means, etc, giving rise to them, as simply the background for these foreground fixed ideas.
Consider that as individual beings, we exist in a social network, as well as that our bodies and minds are internal networks of connecting ideas and organs.
While our thought processes are naturally reductionist, as we search for signals in the noise, it is also necessary to retain some sense of the larger context in which these signals exist.
Consider that the supposed strength of capitalism over socialism is that it functions as an ecosystem, in which individual economic entities rise and fall, while socialist structures tend more toward being both a singular social entity, but erasing the cultural heirarchy to enable it to function as one and having to substitute a bureaucratic one instead.
So what has be be acknowledged is that entities come and go, while the processes generating them, the positive feedback building them and the negative feedback breaking them down, has to be accepted and understand, if we are to further evolve as social beings.
One way to clarify this process is to examine the nature of time.
As mobile organisms, we have a sequential process of perception and a narrative based culture, so we think of time as the point of the present, moving past to future. Yet the reality is that change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns.
There can be no literal dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
Energy is "conserved," because it is the present. Its changing configuration creates the effect of time. As well as temperature, pressure, color, sound. All frequencies and amplitudes.
So the energy, as process, goes past to future, while the patterns generated go future to past. Think in terms of a wave, where the energy is what drives and manifests it, as it's passing through, while the forms, the fluctuations and undulations, rise and fall, come and go, future to past.
For example, in a factory, the product goes start to finish, while the production line goes the other way, consuming material and expelling product.
As individual lives go birth to death, while the process of life goes onto the next generation, shedding the old.
So while we might think in terms of objects and entities, the nouns of our perception, we can't assume the processes are simply background. The verbs emerging from their interactions. These nodes really are only the crests of the waves.
Consciousness also goes past to future, while the patterns it manifests, perceptions, thoughts, emotions, come and go. So naturally it is these forms we fixate on, but we really are only in the early stages of human evolution. More toward the end of the beginning, than the beginning of the end.
The future is coming.
