It might first help to have a basic physical explanation for time and the question of time.
We are mobile creatures, consequently with a sequential process of perception and a narrative based culture, so we envision time as the point of the present, moving past to future. Physics codifies this by treating it as measures of duration.
The reality is that change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. Potential, actual, residual.
There is no literal dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
Energy is "conserved," because it is the present. Its changing configuration is time. Duration is the present, as the events rise and fall.
Thus time is an effect, similar to temperature, pressure, color and sound. Frequency and amplitude.
Ideal gas laws correlate volume with temperature and pressure, but they are not referred to as the 5th and 6th dimensions of space, as they are only foundational to our emotions, bodily functions and environment, not the sequence of thought.
So energy, as process, goes past to future, while the patterns generated go future to past.
As consciousness goes past to future, while thoughts and emotions go future to past. Or products go start to finish, while the production line goes the other way, consuming material and expelling product.
This dichotomy of energy and the forms being manifest effectively explain reality. The energy is what drives the wave, while the information of frequency and amplitude are derived from the emergent, rising and falling undulations. Past to future, versus future to past.
Galaxies are energy radiating to infinity, while form coalesces toward equilibrium. Both entropic and diametrically opposed.
As these biological organisms, we have the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems processing the energy driving us on, while the central nervous system sorts through and further organizes the forms precipitating out. Which does create an intellectual bias toward the static forms, over the dynamic process. Though it is that underlaying energy and the consequent desire to sustain it, ie, appetite, which actually drives this information gathering.
We exist in that feedback between the heart/gut and the head. The anarchy of desire, versus the tyranny of judgement. Youth and age, liberal and conservative.
Currently we are wrapped up in this quantification of desire, referred to as "money," but it is just one more primitive god.
While the basis of Western culture is monotheism, the inherent fallacy is that a spiritual absolute would be that essence of sentience, that flame of awareness, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell. More the light shining through the film, than the images and storyline on it. Consciousness seeking knowledge, than any form or brand of it.
The ideal is aspirational, while the absolute, that universal equilibrium, is elemental.
Although this father figure lawgiver has been a useful narrative device for instilling respect for authority and one's culture into an ever regenerating population, conflating the ideal with the absolute creates an enormous cognitive malfunction, by creating the assumption of one's ideals as absolute.
Consequently every movement that has sought to replace monotheism, from the Terrors of the French Revolution, to the Stalinst purges, to the bottom line of late stage capitalism, even to the current cancel culture, has assumed their ideals to be absolute. Consequently no nuance or debate is allowed, when ideals are at stake.
It is more the yin and yang, than God Almighty.
The opposite of the absolute is the infinite. We fluctuate somewhere between everything cancelling out and everything fading out.
Time is frequency. History is frequency and amplitude.
