It would be interesting to extend this discussion into the modern, Western world, where the single prevails. We have thesis, antithesis and synthesis, but that is still about constructing a larger whole.

The reality in nature is more the cycles between the poles, not their conclusion. Without the ups and downs, it’s just a flatline.

Consider liberal versus conservative; Any society that ever existed has those who push against the boundaries and those who re-enforce them. It’s as elemental as the heart and the head. The anarchy of desire, versus the tyranny of judgment. Motor and steering.

Though in this culture of monist idealism, both sides see themselves on the road to nirvana, so those going the other direction must be fools, if not evil.

People really do get stuck in their ruts and usually it takes something monumental to dislodge them…..
