It would seem the advantage of DEI over the old boy network is simply that it works better at scale. Identity is simply a larger group, than who you know.
Basically it serves as another form of divide and conquer by those really pulling the strings.
In that societies function as super organisms, they evolve systems of government, executive and regulatory, as the nervous system, along with mediums of exchange, money and banking, as blood and the circulation system.
We have evolved enough to understand that since the function of government is the collective health of the entire society, not just the accumulation of power by those at the top, that it is inherently a public utility.
We have yet to realize the same principle applies to banking.
As these linear, goal oriented creatures in this cyclical, circular, reciprocal, feedback generated reality, people see money as signal to save and store, while markets need it to circulate.
Consequently Econ 101 refers to money as both medium of exchange and store of value.
In your body, blood s the medium, while fat is the store. Mixing them up is fatal.
Road are a medium, while parking lots are a store. If we treated roads like we treat money, everything would be paved over, but we would still be fighting over the lots.
As a medium, we own money like we own the section of road we are on, or the air and water flowing through our bodies. It's not our picture on it, we don't hold the copyrights and, most importantly, are not personally responsible for its value, like a personal check.
While it functions as a social contract, enabling economies, we treat it as a commodity to mine from the economy. Requiring ever more to be added and ever more corrosive methods of storing what is extracted.
Consider the Federal debt started to grow with the New Deal, so not only was Roosevelt putting unemployed labor back to work, but unemployed capital, as well.
Then WW2 came along as the largest public works project in the country's history and the die was cast, of the military as the golden child.
Now every country needs defenses, but when that is all there is, it's like a turtle shell, with a dead turtle inside.
Given the one job the flunkies allowed in office seem to be really good at, is running up the debt, it would seem the secret sauce of capitalism is public debt backing private wealth.
That they go play cowboys and Indians on the other side of the planet, while the country falls apart, is simply a consequence of giving children matches and gas to play with.
I could go on, but this is a hint of just how large the task really is.
