It’s not so much a singularity, as a reset. In an equilibrium stage, growth is filling out every possible niche and using every resource, which selects for complexity over durability. Eventually all the conflicts and contradictions pile up to the point it breaks down and when a stable state is reached, it starts growing out again. Trial and error. Forest fires. Nature evolves up and out, but we frame it down, as structure and order. The patterns that define it, rather than the energy driving it. Galaxies are energy radiating out, as form coalesces in.

As mobile organisms, we are goal oriented and as humans, we have a narrative based culture, so when we all follow the same narrative, for the same goals, it becomes a race. What enables nature to be so diverse and vital, is that everything doesn’t have the same goals. Which might seem to set us against one another, but it also allows us to work together as well. To cooperate, when we don’t have the exact same goals.

For one thing, we think of time as the point of the present, moving past to future, but it is change, turning future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. So there is no literal dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.

Given there is only this physical state of the present, it really is about means, not ends. Journey, not destination. How well you play the game, not who wins. When it’s all about winning, people start cheating and if you have to cheat, in order to win, you don’t know the game. Power is the bull, the matador is art.

Yes, morality is a tool, not a god. It is like language, for everyone to use. When we make it a religion, only the high priests can dictate and everyone else is supposed to turn their minds off. Then it becomes rigid and corrupt.

What drives us is desire. The appetite seeking energy to burn and ideas to consume. It is the function of judgement, of order and form, to sort amoung them and decide.

Energy is “conserved,” because it is what is present. It’s changing forms create time. So energy goes past to future, while the forms being manifest go future to past. As consciousness goes past to future, while thoughts and feelings go future to past.

So we are that tension between energy and form. The anarchy of desire, versus the tyranny of judgement. Not every acorn gets to be an oak tree, but without the desire driving it, there is nothing.

So the process is cyclical, reciprocal and feedback driven. We have been going forth and multiplying for hundreds of thousands of years and now we are crashing up against the edge of the global petri dish. The world is round, not flat. It’s time to go from God Almighty, to yin and yang.

Cheers.
