It's not that our current nation states couldn't function as effective societies. Our bodies are made up of millions of cells. It a matter of studying why there is so much disconnect.

One is understanding the basic relationship between nodes and networks. Given Western culture is very much based on a node centric view of reality, from atoms to individuals.

While we might think individualism is synonymous with freedom, it is a bit of a con, given that when the medium enabling markets is privately managed, we are all tenant farmers to the banks. Basically they are the rentiers and we are the serfs.

Then that with so much social and cultural compartmentalization, it becomes a Tower of Babel, with all the experts talking past each other and spiraling ever further into their various rabbits holes, where status is a function of how far down the rabbit hole you happen to be and how many you have following you there.

Then given the ultimate deciding factor is the monetization of everything, profit trumps quality, so that it all becomes about sucking as much value out of society and its functions, like education, raising the young, taking care of the old, etc, than those larger, actual social functions.

Nouns versus verbs.

Lots of different angles......
