It's tough looking outside the box, when it's millions and billions of people and there is a line at every exit and longer lines at the entrances.
The fact though, is that being one of these little vortices swirling around in the biosphere surrounding this little orb in space is fairly unique. You are the center of your point of view of the entire universe.
Think geocentric cosmology, but Philipcentric.
Then consider you are the current manifestation of a biological process that has been evolving ever more complexity for billions of years.
As this individual being, you are driven by your desires and directed by your judgements. Head and heart, motor and steering. Some of those desires want to see a better world, than the social corruption that seems so endemic, while another part just wants to make it through the day.
The problem is we are these linear, goal oriented creatures in a cyclical, circular, reciprocal, feedback generated reality and every action seems to create endless and unpredictable reactions. When we encounter problems, our own, as well as communal inertia attempts to patch them, rather than step back and figure out the causes.
Now we live in this world that keeps speeding up and the illusions of solutions are ever more fleeting, while the mother of all reality checks seems to be in the mail.
Here is an essay, where I try looking under the surface;
