It's what our brains do, but they are only one organ.

Consider that as mobile organisms, this sentient interface our body has with its situation functions as a sequence of perceptions, in order to navigate, so our concept of time is as the present moving past to future.

Though the evident reality is that activity and the resulting change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns.

There is no dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.

Energy is "conserved," because it manifests this presence, creating time, temperature, pressure, color and sound. Rates and degrees, frequencies and ampliudes.

So the energy goes past to future, because the patterns generated coalesce and dissolve, future to past. Energy drives the wave, the fluctuations rise and fall.

Consciousness also goes past to future, while the perceptions, emotions and thoughts giving it form and structure go future to past. Though it is the digestive system processing the energy, the nervous system sorting the forms/information and the circulation system as feedback between them.

So the nervous system is all about sorting and thus judging, categorizing and editing the information, down to what is most relevant and convenient. Signals from the noise.

Yet that requires the frame of our own point of view, focus, needs, etc. There is no objective point of view. It is an oxymoron.

So there is no overall goal, no objective point toward which the program is focused and defined. The nodes of focus exist in networks of energy.

Synchronization coalesces the information, while the residual energy, side effects and eventual consequences break down and radiate back out, harmonizing the overall field/space. Organisms and ecosystems, nodes and networks, particles and fields.

Galaxies are energy radiating out, toward infinity, as structure coalesces in, toward equilibrium.

So computation is only part of it. The act of determination only occurs as the present, so computation is effect.
