Liberalism is about hope, possibilities and the future.

The problem is when it becomes the present. Then decisions have to be make, often hard. We can't have our cake and eat it too. Not everyone succeeds.

It is when we don't recognize this fundamental reality and plan thoughtfully, that the loudest, craziest, most manipulative end up getting their way.

We have this monolithic culture in a dualistic reality, so we end up having extremes of polarization, as each side sees themselves on the road to nirvana and the others as misbegotten fools, rather than a healthy fluctuation in the middle.
